Details&Design

I'm all about the details. It is the common thread in everything I do. If the details are solid, the design will have a good foundation. I frequently tell my event clients that sometimes the best floral arrangements are the ones you will only notice if they weren't there; as a detail, they establish the mood of the event like nothing else but shouldn't distract from the overall impression. Another example would be a necklace with a shoddy clasp. Shoddy clasp escalates to shoddy necklace very quickly. But if the foundation of the piece were well thought out - cord, findings, clasp - you have a beloved piece of jewelry. The same goes for a project team: if you surround yourself with quality people and guide them through the project with special attention to their strengths and abilities, the end product will be the best possible combination of their efforts.

Born and raised outside of Chicago, IL, I attended art classes at a young age and was voted "Most Likely to be a Starving Artist" by my high school class. That lovely moniker aside, I pursued Anthropology and Art History at Vanderbilt University and graduated with a major and minor respectively. I left my mark on the University quite literally by designing, organizing, and painting to near completion the top level of McGill Hall's four story stairwell mural interpreting Dante's "Divine Comedy." Still wary about making art an occupation, I took a part-time job as a designer's assistant in a little flower shop in Nashville, TN a few months after graduation and officially began my professional romance with flowers. Within a few years, however, I was touring the national fine art and craft show circuit and had opened my own event and floral design business. Moves to Madison, WI and then Dallas, TX opened new possibilities and I officially stopped taking clients in 2009 to focus on freelance design and project work.
